Stretch your Wardrobe: 5 Ways to Wear a Statement Necklace

5-Ways-to-Wear-a-Statement-Necklace

Style is a funny thing.  It doesn’t define you, but it is how you are initially perceived.  And if you’ve walked through a difficult time, forget it, it’s usually the first thing to go.  Yoga pants, oversized T’s and all things gray seem much more likely to be the uniform of choice. (For more tips on busting out of a funk, check out our last post)

But have you ever noticed that even on hard or just busy days, when you put effort into your style, you feel SO much better?  It’s like your mood  and confidence start to catch up with your cute yellow flats.  And most often times, if you’re willing to take a style risk, it can be the GATEWAY to confidence in other areas of your life.

Doing ministry has afforded me the opportunity to get in there and get close with a lot of ladies over the years.  And honestly, one of my favorite things to do has been to take a women shopping.  Time and time again, I’ve seen confidence swell in them as over the course of a day they try on pieces or colors that “they could never pull off.”

Your cute little No Small Life is way better and bigger than the self-imposed rules and box we like to put ourselves in.  And while yoga pants and T’s have a place because, praise Jesus for Sunday afternoons, letting that be your continual reflection in the mirror can start to mess with your soul and self-image after a while.

So what’s one thing you can do right now, that:

-won’t break the bank

-will give you a style boost AND

-will help you make multiple outfits???

Well a Statement necklace of course! 😉 Something fun and punchy that you think you could NEVER pull off, might just be what the style dr. ordered. And who knows, that confidence, might just start to spill into other areas of your life too!

I picked this necklace up at Francesca’s last year just before I spoke at the Born 2 Win Conference.  Little did I know, I would practically LIVE in that necklace for the next year. Because it goes with so many things! Check it out

1. Dress up a White Tee or Tank

No, you do not have to give up your basics. I love a good Tee or tank. But just make sure it fits well! 😉  It can take a deceptively long amount of time to find the “perfect” white T.  My current favorite is from Banana Republic. It’s not see through, which high five for that Banana! And has just enough stretch to lay well and not get wonky. #technicalterm

I’m also liking the mix of dressy and casual here by pairing it with this textured tank (Banana Republic) and distressed “girlfriend jean” (Express).

2.  Graphic Tee

See I’m easing you in…You can still have your T-shirt, but just go crazy and get a T with words on it.   And no, Science Olympiad T-shirts from the 8th grade DO NOT count. You know who you are 😉 You can even make your graphic T “work appropriate” by pairing it with a blazer or denim jacket if you’re lucky enough to work in a more casual environment. (Graphic Tee from Forever 21)

 3. Romper

Did you just roll your eyes at me? Yes, you can pull off a romper, you may just have to get a higher quality one so the fit is good 😉 This particular one is OLD and from the Limited Clearance Rack 😀

 4. Blazer

A blazer and a statement necklace is kind of my go too.  It just works. And will make you feel pulled together in a hurry for anything from work to church to date night and just about every social function in between.

 5. Tunic

Yes, yes I could’ve taken another #outfitselfie, but that’s too predictable 😉 BESIDES, I’ll throw pics of my cute husband in any post I can. 😀

I LOVE that tunics are in style.  When part of your job is speaking in front of people they make your life so much easier!  I tend to move around a-LOT when I’m on a stage, BUT I move around even more when I’m getting dressed to be in front of people.  You’ve got to test things out.  We don’t need those kind of surprises in our life do we? ;P A plain tunic can be cute but a little one dimensional, but you throw on a statement necklace, and you my friend have an outfit. (Tunic Express)

How do you like to wear a statement necklace?  Do you have a go-to piece in your wardrobe?

Has there been any trend you secretly wanted to try, but didn’t think you could pull off?

Let me tell you friend, TRY IT!  Your life is not small and you are too precious to be boxed in by your own rules.

Until next time,

Meg
